Windows 11 / Windows 10 / Windows 8 / Windows 7
You can get the most recent version of ZDoom, called GZDoom Download For Windows. This updated port is made for cutting-edge machines with state-of-the-art graphics cards in mind. The game can be played with lower requirements (OpenGL 3.3 for the hardware renderer and Direct3D 9 for the software renderer), but otherwise works the same. LZDoom is a viable option for older computers.
Bear in mind that ZDoom is merely an engine. So, this isn’t the actual game. Instead, so long as you have the original files, it can run any game that was built on the Doom engine, such as Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, Heretic, and Hexen.
GZDoom is the more capable port, with OpenGL hardware and improved software rendering, while QZDoom is the more stable testbed. Christoph Oelckers created and maintains GZDoom, a Doom source port that makes use of 3D acceleration via the ZDoom engine.
The new ZScript language and sophisticated mapping features make it the foundation of modern modding, enabling the creation of mods that are far more complex than those possible with the original idTech1.
ZDoom now comes in various flavors, with the primary port being GZDoom and the secondary port LZDoom. There is a new version of Doom called GZDoom that runs better on modern hardware. To put it simply, it renders scenes more accurately and with greater realism than its predecessors.
