SharpKeys Download For Windows is a free program that lets you change the functionality of any key on your keyboard. This Windows-exclusive tool allows you to map keys to make a new keyboard layout that feels like home. It’s useful for preventing accidental key presses and hilarious for practical jokes around the office. It’s easy to use, and any changes you make can be undone with a click.

Using a Registry Key, which governs how the OS maps the keys, SharpKeys allows you to alter the keyboard layout. US and UK keyboard layouts predominate in the app’s list of supported layouts. It’s worth pointing out that using this tool to remap the keys to a new configuration is a quick and painless process. The program’s one minor drawback is that it necessitates a PC reboot.

SharpKeys is not responsible for the keyboard remapping features; it merely makes us aware of a Registry key that has been available to us since Windows 2000 and controls how Windows remaps keys. The application includes a key list based on the majority of US-based keyboards I’ve used over the years; however, this list may not be exhaustive for international keyboards.

With the release of version 3.9.4, two updates are included: The last entry for AltGr has been removed (it’s a triple-byte scancode and cannot be remapped by this technology), and a bug where the UI would throw an exception when returning from a minimized state has been fixed, both as a result of suggestions made on GitHub.

One of the first things you’ll notice about SharpKeys is how small and quick it is to load. The editable keys become immediately apparent. And all it takes to make the adjustments is a few mouse clicks. If you want to assign a specific action to a key, all you have to do is press the key you want to use.
