The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is an independent roguelike created by Edmund McMillen and developed and published by Nicalis. I.RULE Download For Windows is a tower defense fangame based on this game.

Because it’s a tower defense game, I.RULE is more akin to Plants vs. Zombies than it is to The Binding of Isacc. Nonetheless, it borrows the visual language and several materials from The Binding of Isacc.

I.RULE was created as a loving homage to the countless hours of work that went into making The Binding of Isaac. While it may be a tribute, it bears little resemblance to the game it professes to honor in terms of playability.

This dark and violent aesthetic is immediately noticeable. The enemies become more hostile as you progress through the levels. The more time goes by, the more there are. Killing foes in each stage will need you to experiment with different strategies. It’s easy to tell different enemy types apart by their distinct appearance and style of assault. When devising a strategy, you must take everything into account. In order to defeat some foes, you may need to deal greater damage to others, etc.

Despite the fact that I created the majority of the game’s sprites and effects myself, I relied heavily on resources from TBoI: Rebirth (for which I accept no credit) to give the game a realistic feel. The game also features a number of sound effects and music composed by Ridiculon (with the exception of Nicolas Mayer’s beautiful “Drowned Sorrows” track). As you progress through the game, you’ll encounter some incredible cameo-characters that pay homage to different mods and members of the Isaac community.
